The Unfortunate Journey of a Noseless, Toothless Sick Dog.
|Above all else, a suffering puppy, abused by other dogs and missing his nose, is desperately in need of a loving home. According to a local news report, there are numerous potential adopters currently expressing interest in providing him with the care and compassion he deserves.
This dog has faced significant challenges since being abandoned in Puerto Rico, dealing with various health issues and enduring attacks from other stray dogs. Nevertheless, Sniffles, as he is affectionately known, has shown remarkable progress since his initial rescue and may soon find a permanent home after receiving treatment in the US and collaborating with a Florida-based animal charity.
Reports suggest that Sniffles had to endure horrendous living conditions in Puerto Rico, suffering from whipworms, hookworms, and other parasites, necessitating immediate dental attention.
He was attacked by other strays, resulting in numerous injuries and diseases, ultimately leading to the loss of his nose. Subsequently adopted by a family in the United States through a local animal rescue organization, he sought better medical care in Puerto Rico.
However, this adoption proved to be temporary, as Sniffles faced constant health challenges and escape attempts, prompting his move to Poodle & Pooch Rescue in Florida. This volunteer-run organization rescues 500 to 600 puppies annually.
A committed adopter is needed for Sniffles, willing to clear his nasal passages twice daily and provide daily eye drops for his dry eyes, according to shelter spokeswoman Rebecca Lynch
Despite numerous parasites, including whipworms and hookworms, Sniffles is responding well to treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
Lynch describes Sniffles as a resilient and affectionate dog, gradually overcoming past hesitations and confusion. Despite his illness, he wags his tail, enjoys the outdoors, gets along well with other dogs, and emits adorable grunting noises. The organization is grateful for the widespread interest generated since Sniffles’ story was locally broadcast in Central Florida.
While Sniffles’ case is not unique, the organization encourages potential adopters to consider other animals with special needs or engage in fostering. Neighborhood resident Genesis Diaz, nursing a cold, woke up to find Sniffles staring at her from the side of her bed, a heartwarming experience that resonates with others who rescue animals.
Michelle Walker, the clinic’s medical director, emphasizes Sniffles’ trustworthiness, acknowledging that he may look peculiar but is undeniably a sweet and playful pup who has captured the hearts of everyone at the facility.
