Meet “Augie,” the extraordinary 20-year-old golden retriever who has recently etched her name in history as the oldest dog of her breed ever recorded.

Turning 20 marked a significant milestone for the senior golden retriever. Augie celebrated the occasion by indulging in a pup-friendly carrot cake and spending quality family time with her pet parents and golden retriever siblings.

But this birthday wasn’t just a special event for August and her family. By reaching the age of 20, Augie made world history as the oldest known living golden retriever.

While a few goldens have reached the ripe age of 17 or even 18 and 19, Augie is the first golden retriever to make it to twenty.

Despite Augie’s advanced age, she remains quite healthy. Dealing with kidney issues for several years, she may not be as spry as in her younger days, but she can still move around without struggling and enjoys walking around the yard.

Augie’s long life has been eventful, filled with challenges. A rescue dog, she was rehomed twice before finding her forever family.

Despite the stress of bouncing from family to family, it proved worth the struggle. Augie eventually found her perfect home with Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt, spending six blissful years with them and their other furry companions.

Augie adores her family, and it seems fate always intended for her to find them.

Despite the challenges, her life with Jennifer and Steve has been joyful and exciting, featuring road trips, snuggles, and thrilling games of fetch in the pool.

Adoptions can be challenging for senior dogs, and Augie is grateful that Jennifer and Steve saved her, completely transforming her life. Their genuine love and care have allowed Augie to thrive and reach the record-breaking age of 20.
